about me

Swale Studio was born from a life long love of nature and photography. I was first given a camera at age five. From there it has been an adventure. I tried many different film types before the digital age (and the delete button) changed the game forever.

Hi...

I'd love to tell you that I've come a long way since that child that tried to develop their own 35mm film in their bathwater (pro tip: it didn't work) but really I'm still the same kid that will sit in the woods for hours and come back with a camera full of black capped chickadee pictures.

Over the years I've won a handful of competitions and have had my work displayed in exhibits. The best part was challenging myself to make something new or take on an adventure. My ArtPrize entries are prime examples of this. "Season of Change" was four images of Grand Rapids' La Grande Vitesse taken one image for each season and then attempting to line them all into one image that made sense.

Another year, "By the Light of the Stars", we went to every drive in theater in Michigan photographing their marquees. In 2016 there were 10 active theaters and every one of them has something special about them.

Ta da! I wrote something about myself!
